Showcased at 2014 Auto Expo and spied on test on a number of occasions, Tata Nano Twist Active F-Tronic XTA with AMT launch is closer than expected. Spied in Sanand, near Tata Motors plant, a source confirms that the production of Nano Twist AMT has commenced.
Tata Nano Twist AMT will receive a 624cc MPFI naturally aspirated twin cylinder engine, also seen on current variants of the Nano which is capable of 38 PS peak power and 51 Nm peak torque. The AMT gearbox will be the same Magneti Marelli unit, also seen on the new Zest compact sedan.
To be christened Tata Nano Twist Active F-Tronic XTA, it will feature revised front and rear bumpers, fog lamps, smoked headlamps and a missing chrome strip in the front. Apart from this, Tata will also offer new colour options aboard the Nano AMT. One of them is the red shade you see in the image above. Other one expected is going to be Black, which was spied earlier.
Interiors, which will seat upto 5 adults, will see minimal changes and will continue to sport a central mounted instrument panel and circular air vents. Dominating its interiors will be the chrome finished gear stick for AMT gearbox. It will also have custom seat covers, for eg, this one has red upholstery for headrests.
The AMT unit in Tata Nano comes from Magneti Marelli, who is also the supplier for Tata Zest, Maruti Celerio and Alto K10, Magneti Marelli. Expect it to cost about INR 30,000 more than current Nano Twist XT, which commands an ex-showroom (Pune) price tag of Rs 2.48 lakhs.
Considering Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Alto K10 are the only hatchbacks currently available with AMT technology, costing about Rs 3.8 lakhs and Rs 4.3 lakhs respectively, Tata Nano AMT will enjoy a sort of monopoly in the segment.
