On April 16, 2023, a thermal incident occurred in Pune, Katraj, involving a Tata Nexon EV. As per registration data, this was a 9 month old Neoxn EV, which was registered at the Pune RTO in July 2022. A thermal incident is when something produces heat or fire, which can cause damage or injury, and have even more serious repercussions.

Videos of the car fire showed a quick response in putting the fire out. The good news is that all folks are safe, and a team of technical experts conducted a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Uncovering the cause of the Tata Nexon EV fire in Katraj

In this case, the thermal incident was related to the left headlamp of the Tata Nexon EV that had undergone repairs recently. As with any vehicle fire incident, this one raises concerns about the safety of vehicle repairs. And by that extension, the importance of getting them done at authorized workshops.

Tata Nexon EV fire investigation points to the left headlamp replacement. This repair process had shortcomings, which led to a ‘short and trapped heat’ in the headlamp area. The build up to it happened over an extended period of time. This trapped heat eventually caused an electrical malfunction, which resulted in the thermal incident.

Understanding the Implications of the Tata Nexon Car Fire Incident

It’s important to understand the significance of using authorized workshops for vehicle repairs and services. Authorized workshops have trained technicians who are equipped with the necessary knowledge, tools, and parts to carry out repairs safely and efficiently. They follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and standards, which ensure the quality of the repair work and minimize the risk of any incidents.

On the other hand, unauthorized workshops may not have the same guidance, which may compromise the safety and performance of a vehicle. Additionally, they may not have the necessary expertise or equipment to diagnose and repair complex issues. This can result in incomplete or faulty repairs, which may put the occupants of the vehicle at risk.

Tata Nexon fire incident: A cautionary tale

It’s crucial to ensure that your vehicle is repaired and serviced as well. This not only ensures the safety and performance of the vehicle but also protects your investment.

This is not the first instance of a Tata Nexon catching fire this month. NDTV reported the car was in flames earlier in the month. Luckily, no one was injured. At the start of April 2023 too, Tata Motors issued a statement in relation to a Tata Punch fire incident.
