A global car, the new Tata Nexon compact SUV will be launched in India by September 2017. Featuring a sporty exterior, Nexon has been designed at Tata Motors design studios in Italy, UK and India.
The car has now entered production, with the first lot rolling off earlier this week. Apart from releasing teasers and first car roll-out pictures, Tata Motors has now revealed five class leading features on offer with the Nexon. They are
1 – Engines
Nexon Petrol Engine
Based on the same platform as Bolt and Zest, Nexon will be powered by a new petrol and a new diesel engine. Both these engines will deliver class leading performance, reveals Tata Motors. The 1.2 liter, 3 cylinder Revotron petrol engine will deliver 110 PS and 170 Nm, making it the most powerful petrol car in the segment.
Nexon Diesel Engine
Similarly, the 1.5 liter diesel 4 cylinder Revotorq engine delivers 110 PS and 260 Nm, making it the most powerful diesel car in the segment. Both variants will be mated to a 6 speed manual transmission.
2 – Multi Drive Modes

For the first time, a compact SUV in the sub 4 meter segment will receive such a feature. Depending on your mode of driving, you will be able to tune the car to deliver performance. The three drive modes on offer with the Nexon are – Eco, City and Sport.
3 – Floating Dashtop HD Touchscreen
For the first time, a floating touchscreen infotainment system will be on offer in a car of entry level segment. Such feature is usually seen in cars from Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW. Tata Nexon dashboard will get a 6.5-inch display HD touchscreen.
4 – HARMAN Infotainment System with Android Auto and Car play
The center touchscreen system is powered by Harman and supports both Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Connected to this system is a best in class 8 speaker music system. Tata claims that the music effect inside the cabin is ‘movie-theater’ like. You can also use the system for navigation, reading your messages from phone, answering calls with voice assitance, and so on.
5 – Grand Central Console with Sliding Tambour Door Mechanism
Near the gear lever, you see the storage space with a sliding cover. Such a feature has only been seen in cars likeJaguar Land Rover, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc, but never in a car in this segment. By adding this, storage place for driver is more practical.
In addition to these five ‘first-in-segment’ features, the new Tata Nexon will come with LED headlights, LED taillights, comfortable seats, high ground clearance, sporty character, best in class space, steering mounted controls, etc.
