The 1.2L turbo-petrol offering on Tata Nexon facelift will generate output as opposed to outgoing model – 123 bhp of power and 225 Nm of torque
Tata Motors is on the verge of updating its golden goose, Nexon sub 4m SUV. It has been a runaway success since the first facelift it got in 2020. Nexon is Tata’s highest-seller today and it is paramount for the company to keep it updated with new design and tech / features.
With the upcoming 2024 Tata Nexon facelift, we should see a slight departure from the outgoing model’s design language. Earlier spy shots showed that it gets Harrier and Safari inspired tail lights. Now, there are new developments revealing further info. For starters, Tata is equipping Nexon with sequential turn indicators, a feature that is usually seen in more premium cars, and in a segment above.
Changes Expected With Tata Nexon Facelift
For starters, this is the second facelift for Nexon and not a full-generation upgrade. That said, Tata is likely to introduce a multitude of changes. There will be a different front with inspirations from Curvv concept. Side profile will be kept similar with the same roofline. Rear might get a re-design to make it look more modern.
Rear tail lights are inspired by Tata’s flagship Harrier and Safari. Now, sequential turn indicators are confirmed too. On the inside, Tata will introduce a 10.25” touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other changes are a fully digital instrument cluster and we expect colour changes as well.
Tata Nexon facelift will get a radar-based ADAS suite which was demonstrated in Safari Red Dark Edition. When launched, it will be the first sub 4m SUV to get ADAS. Offering ADAS for such volume will make this tech available to masses, making a significant impact in the Indian automotive industry.
What Is Sequential Turn Indicator?
Most common type of turn indicator is halogen bulbs. They are the least sophisticated and do the job very well and that is why they still do duties on top-spec Verna costing Rs. 17.37 lakh (ex-sh). An upgrade over that is LED flashers which are exponentially brighter and have less latency. Then there are LED turn indicators shaped in a certain design.
These are made up of hundreds of tiny LEDs and follow a pattern. These are usually on/off types and outgoing Nexon uses these. Sequential turn indicators are an upgrade over these and follow a pulsating sequence along their pattern. These look much more soothing and come off as premium, inspired by luxury cars.
Launch Timeline & Potential Rivals
Tata Nexon facelift could be launched by the festive season in a few months. The same 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel will be carried over. With the former, there will be a bump in numbers at 123 bhp and 225 Nm, while the 1.5L diesel will be carried over as is with 113 bhp and 260 Nm. A DCT is in the mix as well. We might see around Rs. 30 to 50K increment with features upgrades to justify the cost. When launched, it will rival Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Kia Sonet.
