To be launched in the sub 4-meter segment, Tata Nexon compact SUV or “Osprey” (codename), has been spied by our reader – Mr Mohamed Shahid Hussain. Expected to be launched next year, the new compact SUV will take on the likes of upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
First showcased as a concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, its dimensions in production-ready guise will be similar to that of the concept. The concept Nexon measured 3.99 mt in length, 1.73 mt in width and 1.6 mt in height with a wheelbase of 2.54 mt.
New Tata Nexon has been designed on Tata Motors’s new IMPACT design philosophy, on which their new Tiago has been designed. To feature a 2+3 seating arrangement, Nexon will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. Estimated engine options on offer are – a 1.2 liter three cylinder Revotron petrol engine offering 85 PS power & 114 Nm torque and new 1.5 liter diesel engine generating about 100 PS. These will be mated to a 5 speed MT as standard, while an AMT option will also be on offer.
The Tata Nexon on test was noted to possess a high ground clearance. Exteriors we seen sporting a mesh grille, new bumper design, circular headlamps, customization options for body kit and contrasting color options for body and roof.
Tata Nexon will also receive a host of comfort and connectivity features as is seen on board the new Zica. Pricing of the sub 4 meter compact Tata Nexon can be expected to range from a base price of INR 5 lakhs going upto INR 8 lakhs for the top end variant.
