Tata Nexon spied testing in Leh, Ladakh ahead of launch next year

Prototype of the Tata Nexon compact SUV has been spied once again. This time the car has been caught testing in the tough terrains of Leh, Ladakh.

Tata Motors had showcased near production-ready version of their Nexon SUV at 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year. Gearing up for launch, the car has been spied many times in the past. Now, the car has been spied up in the mountains, in the treacherous terrains of Leh, Ladakh.

Tata’s upcoming compact SUV is based on a modified XO platform, which also forms the basis of a host of other models from Tata Motors that include the Zest, Bolt and Tiago. Tata Nexon is expected to be offered with a petrol and diesel engine option.

Petrol engine could be in the form of a Revotron 1.2 liter 4 cylinder engine offering 90 PS peak power and 140 NM peak torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Diesel engine will be in the form of a 1.5 liter from the Revotorq family capable of 110 PS power and mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The car was also spied with an AMT gearbox, but is yet not clear whether it is the petrol engine or the diesel engine which gets the AMT box.

Tata Nexon will measure 3,995mm in length, have ground clearance of 200mm and will sit on 16” alloy wheels. Interiors will boast of a new three spoke steering wheel, horizontal AC vents and a new instrument cluster. A 6.5” touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth, reverse parking camera display and smartphone integrations will be some of the features offered.

Once launched, it is set to compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and NuvoSport besides the new best selling car in the segment – Maruti Vitara Brezza. Expect price to be in the range of INR
