Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza Price, Specifications Compare
Battle of the entry level compact SUVs has begun. Which side are you on? We help you decide.
The Tata Nexon has been creating news since quite some. Today the car has been officially launched. The Nexon has a great design, offers a plethora of features and both its Petrol and Diesel engines are turbocharged units. Also, it’s very likely to get an AMT in near future. Prices start aggressively from INR 5.85 lakh, ex-Delhi. Whether the Nexon will go on to become the new segment-leader is something that only till can tell. But one thing that’s for sure is that the new sub 4-metre SUV from Tata and the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the current best-seller, will be at loggerheads in near future. Hence, we’ve now decided to compare the Nexon and the Vitara Brezza to check out if Maruti needs to be worried of the Nexon. The Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza comparison we have here should highlight all the differences, and even the similarities, between these two cars. Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Comparison of Price
|Tata Nexon (ex-sh prices)||Rs 5.85 lakh – 9.45 lakh|
|Maruti Vitara Brezza (ex-sh prices)||Rs 7.23 lakh – 9.69 lakh|
Going by the prices of the Tiago, Tigor and Hexa, it surely seems like the Nexon will get a really attractive price tag, too. Prices of the entry-level Nexon should be roughly Rs 6.50 lakh, while the top-end model should cost no more than Rs 10.50 lakh. On the other hand, the Brezza has seen some price updates over the time it has been in the market and now costs Rs 7.23 lakh for the base model and Rs 9.69 lakh for the top-model. Going by our estimates, prices of the Nexon will undercut that of the Brezza by a fair margin. But let’s still reserve our final verdict on the price comparison till the launch of the new Tata SUV takes place next month.
Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Comparison of Specifications
|Specs||Tata Nexon||Maruti Vitara Brezza|
|Engine||1.2-litre Turbo Petrol/1.5-litre Turbo Diesel||1.3-litre Turbo Diesel|
|Max. Power||108 BHP/108 BHP||89 BHP|
|Peak Torque||260 Nm/170 Nm||200 Nm|
|Transmission||6-speed Manual/6-speed Manual||5-speed Manual|
The Nexon has a clear upper hand here. Firstly, it’s available in both Petrol and Diesel formats, which means the Vitara Brezza, which is available only with one Diesel engine option, could see at least some of its prospective buyers getting attracted to the new Tata SUV. Even if you compare the Diesel engines of the two models, the Nexon comes out as a clear winner, at least on the paper. With 108 BHP of max. power, the Brezza’s 89 BHP motor seems to have a significant disadvantage. Also, while the Nexon comes with a 6-speed Manual Transmission, the Brezza gets a 5-cogger. Currently, none of these have an automatic gearbox on offer. However, Tata is expected to launch an AMT variant of the Nexon in coming days.
We’ve driven both these cars and honestly, both of these have are really very different when it comes to engine performance. While the Nexon Diesel has a displacement advantage, the Vitara Brezza has one really refined motor. Also, the Nexon gets a really long gearing, and noticeable turbo-lag, especially on the Petrol model. The Vitara isn’t all that behind in comparison and offers good all-round performance. Basically, with the gradual shift towards Petrol engine, the Petrol Nexon will have its own distinct appeal. Between the Nexon and the Brezza, the latter will appeal to those who prefer sedate driving and high refinement levels. The Nexon should appeal to those looking for more grunt and power.
Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Comparison of Mileage
|Tata Nexon||16.9 KMPL (Petrol), 21.5 KMPL (Diesel)|
|Maruti Vitara Brezza||24.3 KMPL (Diesel)|
While the Vitara Brezza enjoys an ARAI-tested fuel mileage of 24.3 KMPL, the Nexon has a lower figure to boast. This will be thanks to the higher power output and a larger displacement of the Petrol and Diesel mill.
Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Comparison of Dimensions
|Dimensions||Tata Nexon||Maruti Vitara Brezza|
|Overall Length||3,995 mm||3,995 mm|
|Overall Width||1,811 mm||1,790 mm|
|Overall Height||1,607 mm||1,640 mm|
|Wheelbase||2,498 mm||2,500 mm|
|Ground Clearance||209 mm||198 mm|
Well, both the models are closely matched here. It’s definitely worth a mention here that both the cars here are sub-4-metre models and hence, we never expected a great difference in their lengths, or even the wheelbase. However, we would like to point out here that in spite of being wider, the Nexon is a strict four-seater (unless you want your 4-year old in the middle of the rear bench) while the Vitara can easily accommodate five adults on its rear bench. This has to do much with the design of the seats than the overall width of the models.
Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Comparison of Exterior Design
Well, the new Tata Nexon really looks nothing like any other SUV that’s on sale in the mainstream market. We really like the way Tata’s design has evolved under the supervision of the very talented Mr. Pratap Bose. The Nexon first made its public outing at the last Auto Expo, where it impressed the audience with its suave looks and modern design. We really like the way the Nexon stands apart with its design whilst retaining many design cues typical of a Tata model. The evolved version of Tata’s smiley grille, the taut surfaces, the neat creases, there’s really nothing about this car’s design that we can point a finger on.
In comparison, the Vitara Brezza feels much more SUV-ish and more conventional in the way it looks. While there’s nothing radical about the design of the Brezza, the front-end still impresses with its brawniness. The nose of this car is characterized by the rather sleek-looking headlamps and the chrome-plated grille. The bumper looks a bit sporty, thanks to the big air dam taking the centre stage. When seen in side profile, this compact SUV impresses with its clean surfaces and the typical SUV-ish stance. The wheel arches are a bit square-ish, which further helps this car look more butch. Coming to the rear-end, the car continues to boast a clean design with several eye-catching bits like the chrome housing above the rear license plate. The wrap-around taillamps look very stylish and overall, the rear is a reflection of the brawny front.
Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Interior Design Comparison
The interiors of both the cars are a reflection of their respective exteriors. The Nexon’s interior looks very new-age and has a high aesthetic appeal. The dual-tone black –and-grey treatment makes the interior look sufficiently premium. The abundance of brushed aluminium inserts impart a sporty touch to this car. This treatment continues in the door panels, which further makes the cabin look more upmarket. The central console is neat and has well laid out controls. There’s a floating-type screen for the infotainment that takes the centre stage on the car. Overall, the interior of the Nexon looks very premium and scores highly on the aesthetics front.
In comparison, the Brezza’s interior is a lot more conventional. That said, there’s nothing really wrong with the cabin of this car. One of the biggest areas where it scores over the Nexon is its capability to seat 3 adults on the rear bench seat. The Nexon being more of a four-seater lags behind in this department. The Brezza’s interior isn’t as radical or new-age as the Nexon’s, but it has a sense of longevity that comes associated with most true-blue SUVs on sale today.
It’s a personal choice, really. The Nexon is for those who want a radically-styled SUV that’s got the capability to catch eye balls. The Brezza is for those who prefer understated elegance over everything else. You really can’t go wrong with either of these.
Tata Nexon vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Comparison Verdict
It’s a matter of personal choice, really. Like we just said, the Nexon is for those who want to make a style statement and are ready to break away from convention. The Brezza is for those who want to play it safe and merge with the convention. There’s nothing really wrong with either of these. However, spec-to-spec and feature-to-feature, the Nexon doesn’t enjoy an upper hand in this comparison. True, the Brezza benefits from the bullet-proof service network of Maruti and the high resale value, but we just might be looking at a new revolution here in the form of the Tata Nexon.
