The Tata Safari Storme VARICOR 400 top-end variant has been launched in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. The rear-wheel drive model is priced at INR 13.25 lakhs while the 4×4 version would set you back by INR 14.60 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
While the lower variants continue to the soldier on with a 150 PS/320 Nm version of the 2.2-litre VARICOR motor mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the new variant receives a tuned up version of the same engine which generates 156 PS and an impressive torque of 400 Nm. In addition to the 25% boost in the torque output, the new variants of the SUV also benefit from a brand new 6-speed manual transmission. Based on the VX trim, the Safari VARICOR 400 can be specified with a 4×4 system featuring electronic shift-on-the-fly and Limited Slip Differential. The 4×2 version has an ARAI certified mileage of 13.5 kpl.
Save for the VARICOR 400 badges, there are no exterior changes whatsoever. The interior too remains untouched except for the new integrate Harman infotainment system with speed sensitive volume control, Bluetooth, reverse parking sensor, etc. Safety features include dual airbags and ABS with EBD.

The additional torque and a new transmission is claimed to have improved the ladder frame SUV’s off road capabilities and overall drivability.
