The equipment list of the VX trim sees no changes.

The Tata Safari Storme VARICOR 400 variant’s specifications have been leaked by Team-bhp. The SUV which was spied without the camouflage recently is set to be launched anytime soon.

The VARICOR 400 is nothing but a more powered variant of the existing 2.2-litre VARICOR engine. Debuted by the Tata Hexa Concept SUV at Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the VARICOR 400 puts out 156 PS at 4,000 rpm and a commendable torque of 400 Nm between 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. The motor is mated to a new 6-speed manual gearbox instead of the existing 5-speeder.

The new variant is more powerful than the more upmarket Toyota Fortuner 2.5L.

The new engine will be available only in the top-end VX variant. The lower trim levels will continue to be powered by the 150 PS/320 Nm version which makes do with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata claims that the new variant offers better pulling power on inclines and superior low speed drivability.

The Safari Storme VARICOR 400 is claimed to accelerate from 0-60 kmph in 5.2 seconds (0.5 seconds quicker than 150 PS variant) and from 0-100 kmph in 12.8 seconds (1 second quicker). The recently facelifted Safari Storme received a self adjusting clutch which is claimed to reduce the pedal effort and enhance durability. The system has been carried forward to the variant as well.

The Tata Safari Storme 400 would be noticeably more expensive than the outgoing VX trim since the transmission is all-new. The same engine will be employed by the production version of the Hexa SUV.
