Tata Safari Storme 156 PS 6 MT variant launched, priced from INR 13.52 lakh

The new Tata Safari Storme with a more powerful diesel engine and an improved gearbox, has been launched in India. Priced from INR 13.52 lakh, ex-showroom, Tata Safari Storme with Varicor 400 2.2 liter 16 valve 4 cylinder engine is capable of generating max power of 156 PS at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 400 Nm in between 1750-2500 rpm.

This engine option and transmission is only offered on board the top of the line VX trim, in 4×2 configuration. The 4×4 variant of Safari Storme is expected to receive the more powerful engine and improved gearbox at a later stage. The lower trims and top of the line Safari Storme with 4×4 will continue to be offered with the 150 PS version with 5 speed manual gearbox (Varicor 320).

The new engine and transmission will result in improved performance. As per data received, the new Safari Storme with Varicor 400 engine and 6 speed MT, will be able to sprint from 0-60 kmph in 5.2 seconds, which is about 0.5 seconds faster than the Varicor 320 engine with 5 speed MT. Speaking about 0-100 kmph, it has become quicker by a full 1 second, and can be achieved in 12.8 seconds.

Tata Motors had launched the Safari Storme back in 2012. Earlier this year, Tata Motors updated the Safari Storme with quite a few styling tweaks like the new front grille, new bumper, new steering wheel, revised dashboard, new upholstery, etc.

Features on board the new Varicor 400 variant of Safari Storme are same as were offered on the existing VX trim. These are dual stage airbags in the front, ABS, EBD, Engine immobilizer, central locking, rear ac vents, rear parking sensors, height adjustable driver seat, and electric ORVM.

Compared to the price of VX with Varicor 320, price of Varicor 400 is higher by about INR 40,000. Not at all bad for a more torquey engine and new 6 speed MT. Sales of the new Safari Storme VX have already commenced, confirms a local dealer.
