The launch of the all-new Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra has shaken up the mid-size SUV segment. Both these SUVs are loaded with features, redefining the segment. With both SUVs now having their pricing and technical details out in the open, it is clear that buyers are in for an interesting choice. While Seltos focuses on a broader powertrain spread, space, comfort and feature-loaded trims, Sierra banks on nostalgia, triple screen display on dashboard, state of the art music system and a more rugged styling.
Pricing – Seltos Takes an Aggressive Approach
Kia has gone in aggressively with pricing for the new Seltos, starting at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol NA manual. Even the turbo-petrol and diesel variants are priced competitively, with top-end models topping out at Rs 19.99 lakh. What stands out is that many prices closely match, and in some cases undercut, the outgoing Seltos, despite the new model being larger, more feature-rich and built on a new global platform.
Tata Sierra, on the other hand, starts slightly higher for comparable variants, with petrol NA prices beginning at Rs 11.49 lakh and diesel prices starting from Rs 12.99 lakh. Top-end Sierra variants stretch up to Rs 21.29 lakh, placing it clearly above Seltos in pricing. This positions Sierra as a more premium, space-focused SUV, while Seltos targets value-conscious buyers looking for maximum features and technology.
Engine and Performance – More Choice with Seltos
Both SUVs are offered with 1.5 liter petrol NA, 1.5 liter petrol turbo and 1.5 liter diesel engine option. Outputs of these engines are also similar. Seltos delivers 115 PS / 144 Nm, 160 PS / 253 Nm and 115 PS / 250 Nm respectively while Sierra delivers 106 PS / 145 Nm, 160 PS / 255 Nm and 118 PS / 280 Nm respectively for the 3 engines. Official ARAI mileage figures have not been revealed by both.
Seltos offers multiple transmission options including manual, iMT, IVT, DCT and automatic give buyers plenty of flexibility. Sierra also offers similar options, but with different flexibility – like its turbo petrol is not available with the faster DCT or manual. Instead the less powerful Sierra NA petrol gets the DCT gearbox.
Dimensions
New Kia Seltos has the larger overall footprint by length — it measures 4,460 mm long with 1,830 mm width and 1,635 mm height, riding on a 2,690 mm wheelbase. In simple terms, it’s the longer car, and that usually translates to a bigger cabin “feel” and stronger road presence in this segment.
Tata Sierra isn’t smaller though — it’s actually bigger in other key ways. Sierra is 4,340 mm long, but it sits on a longer 2,730 mm wheelbase, and it’s also taller (1,715 mm). Plus, it appears wider (the image shows 1,841 mm body width and 1,992 mm overall width — likely with ORVMs). A longer wheelbase typically helps rear legroom, and the extra height often improves headroom and the sense of airiness.
Kia Seltos Variants and Features
The new Kia Seltos comes across as one of the most feature-packed offerings in the mid-SUV segment, right from the base variants. Even the HTE trim gets full LED lighting with Ice Cube MFR headlamps and Star Map DRLs, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a full digital instrument cluster, cruise control, rear AC vents and multiple USB Type-C chargers. As you move up, variants add segment-first features like automatic streamline door handles, connected LED tail lamps, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, front ventilated seats, powered driver seat with relaxation function, wireless charging and rear sunshade curtains.
Higher trims further raise the bar with a 30-inch Trinity panoramic display, Bose 8-speaker audio system, 64-colour ambient lighting, Kia Connect 2.0 with OTA updates, a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS with 21 autonomous safety features. The GTX and X-Line variants focus on a sportier and premium appeal with R18 alloy wheels, neon brake calipers, GT-Line styling elements, memory seats, auto-reverse ORVMs and exclusive interior themes, making the new Seltos feel genuinely loaded across the range rather than being top-trim dependent.
Tata Sierra Variants and Features
Tata Sierra comes across as a very feature-rich and tech-forward SUV across its variant lineup, with a strong emphasis on comfort, safety and a modern cabin experience. Even the lower Smart+ and Pure trims offer a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital cockpit, multiple drive modes, cruise control, TPMS, all-wheel disc brakes, rear AC vents, flush door handles, and 6 airbags as standard, setting a solid baseline.
As you move up to Pure+ and Adventure, Sierra adds premium convenience features such as a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, alloy wheels, rear defogger, 360-degree camera with blind-spot view, front parking sensors, mood lighting, leatherette steering wheel and gear shifter, along with enhanced digital displays.
Adventure+ further elevates the experience with a larger infotainment screen, navigation-enabled digital cockpit, terrain modes (Normal, Wet and Rough), cooled glovebox, rear seat recline, Boss mode, thigh support extender and powered front seats, making it more lifestyle-oriented.
At the top end, Accomplished and Accomplished+ variants position Sierra as a technology flagship, offering Level-2 and Level-2+ ADAS with up to 22 active safety features, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, blind-spot detection and view monitor, lane centering, autonomous emergency braking for cars, pedestrians and cyclists, powered tailgate with gesture control, air purifier with AQI display, premium JBL audio with Dolby Atmos, HUD, ventilated seats, memory-enabled powered driver seat, and a triple-screen panoramic display layout.
Overall, Tata Sierra’s feature spread is clearly designed to deliver a premium, future-ready SUV experience that scales meaningfully from entry to top variants, while strongly prioritising safety and in-cabin technology.
Colour Options
The new Kia Seltos offers a wide and premium-looking colour palette aimed at buyers who want both choice and differentiation. It comes with 10 monotone colour options, including Morning Haze, Magma Red, Frost Blue, Ivory Silver Gloss, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl and Glacier White Pearl. In addition, Kia also offers two dual-tone combinations – Glacier White Pearl with Aurora Black Pearl and Magma Red with Aurora Black Pearl. For customers opting for the sportier X-Line trims, exclusive shades like Matte Graphite and Aurora Black Pearl further enhance the visual appeal, complemented by multiple alloy wheel designs ranging from 16-inch steel wheels to 18-inch crystal-cut and black-painted alloys.
The Tata Sierra, on the other hand, takes a more understated yet rugged approach with its colour options. It is offered in shades such as Munnar Mist, Pristine White, Pure Grey, Coorg Cloud, Bengal Rouge, and the signature Andaman Adventure yellow. These colours are designed to align with Sierra’s bold, lifestyle-oriented positioning, focusing on earthy and adventure-inspired tones rather than flashy contrasts. While the palette is more restrained compared to Seltos, it suits buyers looking for a distinctive, SUV-centric character that stands apart through design rather than sheer colour variety.
