Tata Motors, in a joint venture with Jayem Automotives, Coimbatore, have launched two performance oriented cars in India. The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are priced at Rs 6.39 lakhs and Rs 7.49 lakhs respectively (ex-showroom).
Designed to offer better engine output, a sportier design theme, enhanced driving dynamics and performance – these special cars will not be on sale at all Tata dealerships in India. In fact, they will be on sale in just 15 cities of India.
These 15 cities are – Chandigarh, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Haryana, Bangalore, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata. Sales will commence from early November, while deliveries will start soon after.
The two performance vehicles share similar design features and target buyers in urban areas offering them a new experience in driving. Notably similar to their non JTP counterparts in terms of dimensions, the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP get lower ride height. Ground clearance stands at 166mm, which is 4mm lower than that offered on the standard models. Suspension is also tweaked while steering set up is enhanced along with wider tyres so as to step up performance and handling.
Tata Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are produced at the company plant in Sanand. Bold styling with new design elements at the front and rear are seen which include larger grilles, smoked projector headlamps, 15” diamond cut alloy wheels, new side skirts and fenders. The JTP badging is displayed on its front grille, side apron and boot.
Interiors are seen in all black color schemes. It gets sporty accents on AC vents, a leather wrapped steering wheel with red stitching accents and aluminum pedals. A touchscreen infotainment system and 8 speaker Harman sound system are also a part of its interior makeup.
New Tata Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP get powered by a 1.2 liter, turbocharged Revotron petrol engine offering 114 PS power and 150 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Tata Motors claims that the Tiago JTP is capable of 0 to 100 kmph acceleration in 9.95 seconds while the Tigor JTP achieves the same in 10.38 seconds. Top speed is set at 160 kmph. Both vehicles get multi drive modes of Sport for performance and City for efficiency.
