The Tata Tiago, originally christened as the Zica, will be launched in India today. The sub-Bolt hatchback rivals the likes of Maruti Celerio, and Chevrolet Beat.
The hatchback which is based on a heavily re-engineered version of the Indica’s XO platform is built alongside the Nano GenX at the automaker’s Sanand factory. Addition of the new product is expected to improve the facility’s low capacity utilization factor.
Being a part of Tata Motors new ‘Geared for Great’ campaign which has Lionel Messi as the brand ambassador, the Tata Tiago has a huge responsibility of turning around the company’s fortunes in passenger vehicle sales. Tata is also expected to export the small car to several countries.

Tata Tiago is powered by all-new three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The naturally aspirated Revotron petrol motor is a 1.2-litre unit which generates 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque. The 1.05-litre diesel engine is good enough for 70 PS and 140 Nm of torque. Both powerplants are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. An AMT would be introduced at a later stage.
The top-end Tata Tiago variant packs dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, a music system with Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone-enabled turn-by-turn navigation, power windows, alloy wheels, fog lamps and so on.
