Tiago helps Tata become 3rd largest passenger car maker in India
New Tata Tiago registered sales of 6,108 units in the month of October 2016, becoming the first Tata car in over 3 years to exceed monthly sales of 6,000 units. The momentum continues as in the month of Nov 2016, Tiago sales once again crossed the 6k mark, registering 6,008 units. Ever since Tata launched the new Tiago, they have seen a turn-around in their fortunes, at least on the sales chart.
Average monthly sales performance of 6,000 units from Tiago has not only helped Tata’s passenger car division to overcome the dwindling sales over the last few years, but also beat the likes of Mahindra and Honda in passenger vehicles sales and become the 3rd largest car manufacturer in the country.
We went back and checked to when was the last time a Tata car had registered sales of over 6,000 units. The last time a Tata car managed to sell more than 6,000 units in a single month was in January 2013. That too was a combination of the old Indica and Vista which clocked 7,321 units.
Given that that the Tiago is sitting on over 50,000 bookings and Tata has now sorted out the demand-supply mismatch of the petrol variants, we expect the Tiago to maintain the momentum for the months to come. For Nov 2016, Tata Motors registered sales of 12,736 units as against Mahindra’s 12,707 and Honda’s 8,016 units.
The positive response for the hatchback also sets the tone for the soon-to-be-launched Kite 5 (codename) sedan derivative which features an interesting rear end design, and packs even more features than the Tiago.
The Tiago’s fresh design, new powertrain, upmarket interior and a very tempting price range are the primary selling points. The car competes with the Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10. Read Tata Tiago Review.
