With an attractive price range of INR 3.20 lakhs to INR 5.54 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Tata Tiago has got its market positioning spot on. The latest small car targets an assortment of vehicles in the price bracket and this is how it stacks up against the Renault Kwid and Datsun Go.
Though the Renault Kwid caters to an audience base with a more stringent budget, its price range does overlap with that of the Tiago and Go. Among these three budget offerings, the Tiago clearly has a power and torque advantage at 85 PS and 114 Nm respectively. In comparison, the Go produces 68 PS and 104 Nm of torque while the Kwid delivers 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque (thanks to the much smaller 799 cc mill). The Tiago is the only hatchback in this comparo to offer a diesel engine option in the form of a 1.05-litre motor which dishes out 70 PS and 140 Nm of torque.
Coming to dimensions, the Renault Kwid is noticeably smaller (but taller) than the other two. Surprisingly, the French small car offers the largest boot capacity (300 litres). Though the Kwid has a power disadvantage, it makes up for it with an extremely light kerb weight of 660 kg which is a good 352 kg lighter than the Tiago’s kerb weight of 1,012 kg!
Not surpringly, the Kwid tops the FE chart with an ARAI certified figure of 25.17 kmpl but despite a high power output and kerb weight, the Tiago returns an impressive milage of 23.84 kmpl. The Go is good enough for 20.63 kmpl.
The Renault Kwid retails between INR 2.62 lakhs to 3.67 lakhs while the Tata Tiago petrol variants are priced between INR 3.20 lakhs and INR 4.75 lakhs (the higher variants justify the price with best-in-class features). The Datsun Go carries a price range of INR 3.25 lakhs to INR 4.13 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
