In an attempt to fend off pressure from the competition, the Tata Tiago compact hatchback has received a variant rejig. The brisk selling small car is now available with safety features as stand across its variant lineup.

Tata Motors has discontinued the XT and XTA (AMT) variants which are replaced by two new manual trims – XZ (revised feature list) and XZO – and three new AMT trims – XZA, XZA+ and NRG A. The prices of the existing variants remain largely unchanged. The prices of new variants will be updated on the official website in the coming days.

The Tiago now comes with standard safety equipment as mandated by the government. The list includes dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution, Corner Stability Control, reverse parking sensors, passenger seat belt reminder and speed alert system.

The refreshed XZ trim offers 14-inch wheels with hubcaps, Connect Next infotainment system by Harman with 4-speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, reverse parking sensor with display, remote central locking, multi-function steering wheel, etc. The XZO adds 5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, cooled glove box, LED indicators on ORVM, day-night mirrors, rear wash, wiper and defogger, etc.

The XZ+ and XZA+ serve as the top-end trims now. The salient features include 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15-inch alloy wheels, 8 speakers, automatic climate control, electric folding ORVMs, projector headlamps, height adjustable driver seat and so on. The cosmetically embellished NRG and NRG A variants receive the 7-inch Harman system, and folding mirrors.

The Tata Tiago is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine and a 1.05 liter three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine. The petrol motor is good for 85 hp and 114 Nm of torque while the diesel unit is capable of 70 hp and 140 Nm of torque. The former can be had either with a 5-MT or AMT while the latter is available only with a 5-MT.

The Tata Tiago competes with the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio, Datsun Go, etc. The hatchback has been pulling in crucial sales volumes for the automaker since its launch. Tata Motors is currently working on a facelifted model which is expected to be ready towards the end of this year or early next year with BS-6 compliance.

Mr. SN Barman – Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Customer Support, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “There is a rising trend among car buyers of prioritising safety features while making their purchase. We, at Tata Motors, lay immense emphasis on the presence of safety features in our vehicles. With the Tiago range getting the standard safety upgrade, we remain committed in our vision of building safe vehicles for India. The Tiago was our first product sporting the IMPACT design language which received a brilliant response from the market and with this upgrade, I am sure the brand will stay on top of the consideration set of prospective car buyers.”
