The Tata Zica small car which was identified by its codename Kite till last week is inching closer to its D-Day. The company has started releasing minor details of the product in a phased manner to create a buzz around it unveil. The latest piece of information is the meaning of the new nameplate. As it turns out, Zica is a acronym for “Zippy Car”.

The world Zippy denotes speed and liveliness of the product. The term apparently is chosen to connect with the young audience who share the same qualities.

The new hatchback will also spawn a sub-4 sedan in the coming months.

With a fresh and energetic design and new set of powertrains, the Tata Zica will be positioned as an affordable city car. With young customers as target audience, the hatchback is likely to be packed with modern features such as a touchscreen infotainment system (top-end variant) and a good audio system. Previous interior spyshots revealed that the Zica adopts a fresh dashboard design but derives the steering wheel from Zest/Bolt twins.

Based on a heavily refurbished X0 platform (Indica eV2) the Zica is likely to be powered by new 1.2-litre petrol and 1.05-litre diesel engines. While manual transmission will be a standard option, we expect the diesel engine to be offered with an AMT as well.
