Codenamed Tata Kite, the small hatchback from Tata Motors which is set to debut in a few weeks, has been christened ZICA. We are not sure what the term means, or what does it indicate. But rest assured, Tata Motors will highlight more on the same in the coming days.
Built on Tata XO platform, the new Zica will be promoted by Lionel Messi, Global Ambassador, Tata Motors. Engine options on board the new Tata Zica will be in the form of a detuned 1.2 liter Revotron petrol engine and a completely new 1.05 liter three cylinder diesel engine.
The petrol engine is expected to generate a peak power of 75 hp and 120 Nm, while the diesel engine’s ratings are expected to be 64 hp and 142 Nm torque. Special attention has been paid in making the Zica friendly on the pocket, as expected mileage for the diesel engine is above 25 kmpl, while that of the petrol is above 20 kmpl.
Both engines will be mated to a five speed manual transmission, while there will also be an AMT option on offer. To be placed a segment below the Bolt, Tata Zica will compete with the likes of Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Celerio, and Maruti WagonR. Expected price range of Tata Zica is between INR 3.8 – 5.5 lakh.
Tata Zica India launch will take place in the second week of January 2016. Based on the same platform as Zica, Tata Motors will also launch a sedan. This will happen later in Q3 2016.
