Anmol Gupta, a 19-year-old who possesses a learner’s license, crashed his father’s Toyota Fortuner SUV into the toll booth located at the end of Bandra-Worli Sealink (close to Bandra reclamation) in the early hours of Thursday. The teenager was on his way to home with 7 of his friends when the joy ride ended in a nasty accident.
While the occupants of the SUV escaped unhurt or with minor injuries, four of the toll booth employees ended up at the receiving end. The injured were taken to K B Bhabha hospital in Bandra.
While two of the victims were discharged after first aid, the other two have been admitted for further treatment. Fortunately, all the four are reported to be in a stable condition.
The teen reportedly lost control of his SUV and was not able to stop it in time to avoid the crash. Talking to Mumbai Mirror, police sources said that it is highly unlikely the driver was intoxicated during the accident but a blood sample has been collected for tests anyway.
Anmol Gupta has been arrested and later released on bail. He has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to property) of the Indian Penal Code.
