Teenagers kill Uber driver in Delhi

An Uber driver was shot dead in South West Delhi by two juveniles aged 16 and 17.

Uber taxi hailing service is once again in the news, only this time, it is not for crimes committed by the drivers but against the driver.

It was the very first day of the driver, Kuldeep Thakur, 51, as an Uber driver. He had just started accepting passengers using the Uber taxi booking app and two teens aged 16 and 17 hailed his cab at 4.00 pm on Wednesday. The two teens demanded to be taken to Hiran Kudna in West Delhi.

Stating that they had to pick up a third person on the way, the duo poked fun at the driver who was a native of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. As Thakur sought to counter these jokes with some jokes on the teenagers, they got angry and shot at Thakur hitting him in the temple and neck.

The teens then dumped the driver’s body in a secluded area and drove off the vehicle to Najafgarh in outer Delhi. They removed number plates before abandoning the vehicle. On noting a trail of blood inside the vehicle, villagers alerted the police after which the crime came to light.

Further investigations are underway while the murder weapon is yet to be recovered.
