Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team racing driver Tiago Monteiro went by ‘Eau Rouge’ corner and hill climb at Spa Francorchamps last week but swapped his Honda Civic WTCC for the world’s fastest lawnmower, Honda Mean Mower. The Honda 1000cc, 109hp ‘Mean Mower’ sped upto 80mph as he approached the bend in damp track conditions. Warm up laps consisted of mowing grass around the circuit, and a few donuts.

Tiago Monteiro with the Honda Mean MowerHe said, “I’ve competed at Spa in many different cars but this was a little bit different! It’s fast, very fast, and quite sensitive, making it difficult to drive at pace. With such huge power and acceleration you need a lot of concentration to take on the Eau Rouge, particularly on such a wet track.”

The world’s fastest lawnmower averages 116.57 mph and broke the previous Guinness World record by almost 30mph on the 2000km North Straight at the IDIADA Proving Ground in Tarragona, Spain, on Saturday 8th March 2014 outdoing the previous record of 87.83mph.

Mean Mower demonstrates Honda’s sprit of innovation, motor sport heritage, and that it makes more than just cars. Built in the UK by Honda’s British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) partner, Team Dynamics, it’s a re-engineered Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor from the ground-up with an all-new fabricated chassis, custom-made from 4130 chromoly, to provide a strong and light platform. A 1000cc engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm was used, with suspension and wheels from a racing ATV.

Mean Mower attains top speed in excess of 130mph, weighs 140 kg, and produces 96Nm of torque. With a PTW ratio of 532bhp/tonne, it goes from 0-60 mph of just four seconds.
