Tom von Bonsdorff is new Volvo Auto India Managing Director

Tom von Bonsdorff who has been with Volvo Cars for the past 17 years in a host of capacities right from operational to managerial positions will be assuming position as Managing Director of Volvo Auto India with immediate effect. He takes over from Tomas Ernberg who will be moving back to Sweden in a new capacity.

Bonsdorff has worked in the US, Sweden and Finland and in his current position as Market Area Director Volvo Auto India. He has been appointed at the helm and with his sound knowledge of the industry and marketing strategies is slated to soon take Volvo Cars India to the next level.

Volvo Auto India has been established in 2007 and has a wide market network and dealerships across the country. The company has five luxury models in its current lineup which includes Volvo S80, Volvo S60, Volvo XC60, Volvo V40 Cross Country and the recently introduced Volvo XC90 luxury SUV.

Volvo XC90 luxury SUV comes in at a starting price of INR 64.9 lakhs for the Inscription trim and goes upto INR 77.9 lakhs for the Momentum variant with deliveries to commence from September 2015. The luxury SUV was unveiled last month by Tomas Ernberg and is powered by a 2.0 liter four cylinder 8 speed AWD with 225 bhp and 470 Nm torque.

Based on the new Scalable Product Architecture, Volvo XC90 SUV will be followed by the  launch of Volvo V40 hatchback by the end of this month. Increased dealerships across India are also being planned with the automaker targeting 20-22 new dealerships in 2015 to be increased to 60 by 2016. Volvo Auto India sells around 2000 units per annum and claims to have sold 487 units in the first quarter of this year.
