When it comes to the top 10 cars sold, November 2019 sales are hardly surprising. The usual suspects continue to dominate, making it difficult for new entrants. As is the norm, Maruti Suzuki rules the roost with a majority of top 10 cars sold, and Hyundai basks in the minor stake. That pattern continues but what can be viewed as a whiff of fresh air is the mention of Kia Seltos in the list.

19,314 units of Maruti Suzuki Swift were sold, down 12.96 percent from 22,191 units sold a year earlier. Despite sales contraction, it retains its top post for the comparable period. Maruti Baleno sales is reported at 18,047 units, at a marginal drop of 3.22 percent from 18,649 units.

Maruti Dzire sales is reported at 17,659 units, down 16.05 percent from 21,037 units sold in Nov ’18. Maruti Alto sales fell 19.07 percent to 15,086 units from 18,643 units. Following sales decline for it’s top 4 sellers, MSIL was able to report sales growth for WagonR. Sales is up at 14,650 units, up 29.51 percent from 11,311 units.

Kia Seltos has hammered competition to get to sixth spot on the list with 14,005 units sold. This is remarkable considering Kia Motors has only just opened shop in India, and sells only the one product here. Needless to say, the brand has read the market well, and riding the tide.

Maruti Brezza sales is reported at 12,033 units. Sales decline stands at 16.30 percent, down from 14,378 units. Despite the slowdown, Brezza leads in segment sales. MSIL does have a newbie on the list. Maruti S-Presso, the brand’s newest launch has found 11,220 buyers.

While the numbers look positive to start with, it does reflect a slowdown in other small cars the brand sells in the segment. Details will be discussed as soon as the numbers are available.

Hyundai takes the last two slots in the top 10 list. Hyundai i20 sales is reported at 10,446 units. Down 1.03 percent from 10,555 units. 10,186 units of Hyundai i10 are reported sold, up 10.09 percent from 9,252 units.

In comparison to sales decline reported across a multitude of Maruti’s bestselling cars, sales for both Hyundai cars in the list haven’t contracted to such degrees. In November 2018, Hyundai had a stronger representation in the top ten list when Hyundai Creta and, the then recently launched Santro found a mention.
