During March 2015, Maruti, Hyundai & Honda ranked among top three PV makers in India with M&M dropping to fourth position.
March sales figures were released yesterday which drew attention to change in position where Honda Cars and Mahindra were concerned. While M&M stood at No.3 position in March 2014, HCIL took its place in the No 3 spot in March 2015 pushing M&M to No. 4. During the past month, HCIL sales touched 22,696 units as against 18,426 units sold in March 2014 resulting in 23% growth.
Mahindra sales during March 2015 dipped 10% and stood at 21,030 units as compared to 23,433 units sold in the same month a year earlier when it was in No. 3 slot on India’s top 10 passenger vehicle list. Retaining its top spot was Maruti Suzuki India Limited. The company posted a 1.4% increase in sales during March 2015 when the company sold 1,03,719 units as against 1,02,269 units sold in March 2014.
Hyundai Motors also retained its No.2 position during March 2015 with 13% increase in sales from 35,003 units sold in March 2014 to 39,525 units sold in the past month. Tata Motors ranked in 5th position and experienced increased sales of its two new models Zest and Bolt. The company recorded growth of 19% with 15,039 units sold in March 2015 as against 12,640 units sold in the same month in the year ago period. Toyota sales increased substantially with 8,206 units sold in March 2014 going all the way upto 13,333 unit sales in March 2015 while the same could not be said about Nissan Motors. The company sold 7,031 units in March 2014 while sales in March 2015 dipped to just 4,717 units causing the company to drop down to 9th position on the top 10 passenger vehicle list.
General Motors failed to make it on the list during the month of March with sales decline of 42% to 3,823 units as against 6,601 units sold in March 2014 while Ford India sales also dipped substantially by over 17% in March 2015 though ranking increased from 9th position in March 2014 to 7th position last month. Volkswagen entered the top 10 list at last spot with 22% increase in sales.
