Maruti Suzuki, leading automaker in India has 8 of its cars on the list of top 10 best selling cars in the past month. Top 10 cars registered sales of 1,45,878 units in total, up 16.62 percent as compared to 1,21,947 units sold in the same month of the previous year. There was also a 32.54 percent increase as compared to 1,10,064 units sold in September 2019.
Maruti Suzuki DZire was the most popular sedan among buyers in the country. A total of 19,569 units were sold in the past month, up 12.44 percent as compared to 17,404 units sold in October 2018 and up 24.95 percent as against 15,662 units sold in September 2019. In fact, every Maruti Suzuki car in the list saw some significant increase in sales in October 2019 over sales in September 2019 with the exception of the Brezza.
At No. 2 on the list of best selling cars in October 2019, Swift sales were up 12.70 percent to 19,401 units from 17,215 units sold in October 2019 and up from 12,934 units sold in September 2019. Sales of the Alto and Baleno at Nos. 3 and 4, dipped 19.28 percent and 12.97 percent in October 2019 to 17,903 units and 16,237 units respectively while comparing with sales in October 2018 when sales were at 22,180 units and 18,657 units respectively. However when compared to sales in September 2019, both these models got added attention, up 18.73 percent and 42.18 percent with sales at 15,079 units and 11,420 units respectively.
Hyundai i20 was at No. 5 on the list of best selling model in the past month with a total of 14,683 units sold. This was an increase of 10.48 percent over sales in October 2018 when 13,290 units were sold and 44.79 percent higher as compared to 10,141 units sold in September 2019. The Hyundai i20 Active was launched in India earlier this month and sees several updates in terms of safety features and infotainment.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR stood at No. 6 on the list with 14,359 units sold in the past month, up 34.76 percent as compared to 10,655 units sold in the same month of the year ago period. Sales of the WagonR were even higher in October by 22.13 percent as against 11,757 units sold in September 2019. The WagonR has scored a 2 star rating in Global NCAP with 2 star rating in both adult and child occupant protection.
Newcomer, Kia Seltos entered the list of best selling cars in October 2019 with 12,854 units sold up 65.77 percent as compared to 7,754 units sold in September 2019. Kia Seltos bookings race past 50,000 units and Kia Seltos has also been nominated for the 2020 World Car of the Year.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, another new entrant in the list, at No. 8 saw sales to the extent of 10,634 units in the past month, up 112.43 percent as against sales of 5,006 units in September 2019. Brezza compact SUV sales however, dipped 35.40 percent to 10,227 units in the past month as against 15,832 units sold in October 2018 and down 1.30 percent as compared to sales of 10,362 units sold in September 2019.
At No. 10 on the list of best selling cars last month was the Maruti Suzuki Eeco. Sales of this vehicle stood at 10,011 units up from 6,712 units sold in October 2018 and up marginally as compared to sales of 9,949 units sold in September 2019. The Eeco meets all the latest crash test norms in India and continues to remain the most affordable MPV one can buy in the country as on date.
