The top 10 best-selling cars together recorded over 1.43 lakh units in December, a significant increase compared to the same period last year. Here’s a closer look at the standout performers.

Maruti Brezza led the pack with impressive sales growth of nearly 35% year-on-year. Following closely, the Maruti Wagon R saw a staggering growth of over 101%, doubling its sales from last December. Newly launched Maruti Dzire maintained its stronghold in the sedan segment with an 18% increase in sales. Maruti Ertiga posted a solid 24% growth.

Tata Motors saw strong demand for the Punch and its EV variant, registering a 9% growth. Meanwhile, the Tata Nexon and its EV version faced a slight decline of 11%, though it remains a top contender in the growing electric SUV segment. Hyundai Creta continued its dominance in the compact SUV category, recording a robust 36% sales growth. Hyundai will launch Creta Electric this month, which will boost brand Creta sales even further.

Mahindra Scorpio, including the Scorpio N, recorded a steady 7% growth, appealing to adventure-seekers with its rugged capabilities. Maruti Eeco recorded a 16% increase in sales. Closing the list, the Maruti Fronx delivered a 10% growth, combining crossover styling with modern features to attract urban consumers.

In the SUV category, Maruti Brezza also led the pack, mirroring its success in the overall car market. Tata Punch, including its EV variant, maintained its momentum, securing its place as a top choice for compact SUV buyers. Despite a decline, the Tata Nexon / EV remained a favourite in the electric SUV segment.

Hyundai Creta delivered a stellar performance with 36% growth, followed by the Mahindra Scorpio / N, which continued its stronghold as a rugged off-roader with a 7% growth. Maruti Fronx, with its crossover design, and Hyundai Venue, despite a slight dip, continued to draw significant attention in the competitive compact SUV market.

Mahindra Thar, including the ROXX variant, posted a strong 32% growth, fuelled by its off-road credentials, while the Mahindra XUV700 saw a 25% rise, reflecting its premium appeal. Maruti Grand Vitara maintained steady demand, and Mahindra XUV300 posted an impressive 97% growth, almost doubling its sales year-on-year. While Mahindra Bolero and Hyundai Exter faced declines, the newly launched Tata Curvv, including its EV variant, sold nearly 5,000 units. The Toyota HyRyder, although slightly impacted, took the 15th spot in the list.
