Car exports dipped 9.23 percent YoY in Feb 2023 with Nissan Sunny sedan taking a top spot on this list

Car exports were in the red in February 2023 dipping 9.23 percent YoY. Total exports in the past month stood at 46,486 units, down from 51,213 units sold in Feb 2022. This was a volume de-growth of 4,727 units. Exports were also down on a MoM basis as against 55,626 units shipped in Jan 2023. Factors such as import bans implemented in some Asian and African regions along with economic constraints and weakened currencies across some countries have led to this negative demand.

Top 20 Car Exports Feb 2023 – Nissan Sunny Tops The List

The top 6 exported models each posted YoY growth. Nissan Sunny topped the top 20 list of exports in February 2023. Exports stood at 3,765 units, up 21.10 percent from 3,109 units shipped in Feb 2023. This was a volume growth of 656 units while the Sunny commands an 8.10 percent share on this list. At No. 2 was the Maruti Baleno with export growth of 10.04 percent YoY. Exports which had stood at 3,228 units in Feb 2022 improved to 3,552 units in Feb 2023. It commanded a 7.64 percent share. The Baleno was also the best-selling car in the company lineup and the best-selling hatchback in Feb 2023.

Kia Seltos and Sonet followed in quick succession at Nos. 3 and 4. Exports increased 6 percent YoY for the Seltos to 3,551 units in Feb 2023 from 3,350 units shipped in Feb 2022. Sonet saw an even higher percentage increase of exports up 44.91 percent YoY to 3,117 units from 2,151 units shipped in Feb 2022. Both these Kia products command a 7.64 percent and 6.71 percent share on this list.

Hyundai Creta and Grand i10 posted significant increase in exports in the past month. Creta exports surged 102.15 percent YoY to 3,101 units in Feb 2023 from 1,534 units shipped in Feb 2022. Grand i10 exports went up 170.35 percent YoY to 2,425 units from just 897 units shipped in the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki noted a dip in global demand for the DZire sedan. Exports dipped 37.26 percent YoY to 2,352 units in Feb 2023 from 3,749 units sold in Feb 2022. This was a volume de-growth of 1,397 units.

Exports also dipped for the Verna, down 36.02 percent YoY to 2,243 units in Feb 2023 from 3,506 units shipped in Feb 2022. At No. 9 on the list, Ertiga exports saw a significant 204.34 YoY growth in exports to 2,173 units from 714 units shipped in Feb 2022 relating to a 1,459 unit volume growth. Maruti Suzuki Celerio was up next with 2,017 units shipped last month from 1,910 units shipped in Feb 2022.

The new Toyota HyRyder entered the list with 1,974 units exported last month to command a 4.25 percent market share. Maruti Swift which was at No. 1 in Jan 2023 in terms of exports dipped to No. 12 in Feb 2023. Exports stood at 1,823 units in the past month, a YoY de-growth of 55.78 percent from 3,124 units shipped in Feb 2022. The top 20 car export list also included the S-Presso (1,509 units), Grand Vitara (1,184 units), Maruti Alt0 (1,111 units),  Ciaz (1,072 units) and Hyundai Venue (1,021 units. Out of these, it was only the  Alto that posted a YoY growth while all others reported a YoY de-growth in exports.

With exports under 1,000 units were the Hyundai Alcazar with 906 units shipped in the past month but with a 252.53 percent YoY growth over 257 units sold in Feb 2022. Honda City exports fell by 64.22 percent to 770 units from 2,152 units sold in Feb 2022 while there were also 755 units of the Virtus sold in the same month. Kia Carens(738 units), Aura (727 units), Kiger (674 units), Compass (551 units),  Kwid (543 units) and Scorpio (483 units) also found mention on this list lower down the order. There were also 427 units of i20, 404 units of XUV700, 341 units of the KUV100 and  320 units of Renault Triber exported last month.

The list of car exports for Feb 2023 also had XUV300 (133 units), Kushaq (118 units), WR-V (115 units),  Nissan Magnite (114 units) and  Maruti Eeco van (105 units) Special mention should be make for the Eeco van of which exports surged 1650 percent YoY from just 6 exported in Feb 2022. In the sub 100 segment in terms of exports was the Amaze (84 units), Meridian (79 units), Maxximo (35 units), Ignis (32 units), Brezza (24 units), Bolero (12 units), Kicks 3 units and 1 unit each for the Jimny, Gurkha and XL6.
