11 Maruti cars in India’s top 25 selling cars for Aug 2018 – Alto to Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki sales, both direct and via their NEXA outlet, has seen 11 of its models on the list of 25 best selling cars in India in August 2018. Among the top 6 best sellers were the Maruti Suzuki Alto, DZire, Swift, WagonR and Vitara Brezza along with the Baleno which was sold through NEXA premium outlets. This was despite the fact that the Swift, WagonR and Brezza noted a dip in sales in the past month as compared to sales in August 2017.

Maruti Suzuki Alto sales, which stood at 21,521 units in August 2017, increased by 3% to 22,237 units in August 2018. DZire sales dipped 29% from 30,934 units sold in August 2017 to 21,990 units sold in the past month while sales of Swift increased by a whopping 51% from 12,631 units sold in August 2017 to 19,115 units in the past month. WagonR and Brezza sales dipped 2% and 8% respectively while NEXA outlets sold 17,713 units of the Baleno in August 2018, a 3% increase as compared to 17,190 units sold in August 2017.

At No. 11 on the list of top 25 best selling cars, Maruti Suzuki Celerio sales increased 3% from 9,210 units sold in August 2017 to 9,503 units sold last month. Omni, at No. 13 saw a sales dip of 8% in August 2018 sales. Sales of the Omni, which stood at 7,727 in August 2017 went down to 7,117 in the past month. Maruti Ciaz, at No. 14, and sold via NEXA, saw sales increase by 8% from 6,457 units in August 2017 to 7,002 units in the past month. In view of the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga set for launch, sales of the Ertiga dipped in August 2018 by 42% from 6,076 units sold in August 2017 to 3,515 units sold in the past month.

Hyundai had the i10 Grand, i20 Elite, Creta, Xcent, Eon and Verna on the list of top 25 best selling cars last month. Of these only the Creta and Xcent showed positive growth while the other models suffered with negative sales as compared to sales in August 2017. Creta sales increased by 2% from 10,158 units in August 2017 to 10,394 units in the past month while Xcent sales increased 44% from 3,467 units sold in August 2018 to 4,981 units sold in the past month. i10 Grand sales dipped 7% while sales of the i20 Elite also dipped 3%along with the Eon. Verna, which just about made it to the list at No. 20 saw sales dip 30% from 4,779 units in August 2017 to 3,361 units in the past month.

Honda Amaze sales grew by 400% in August 2018. Sales which stood at 1,928 units in August 2017 escalated to 9,644 units in the past month. It was also automakers such as Mahindra, Tata, Toyota, Renault and Ford that had one offering each on this list of top 25 car sales. Mahindra’s Bolero suffered a loss of 3% from 6,215 units in August 2017 to 6,030 units in the past month.

Tata Tiago sales increased 32% from 7,036 units in August 2017 to 9,277 units in the past month. Toyota Innova Crysta sales increased 12% from 5,963 units in August 2017 to 6,680 units in August 2018 while sales of Renault Kwid dipped 29% from 7,802 units in August 2017 to 5,541 units in the past month. Ford EcoSport sales stayed at 4,444 units in August 2018 falling just marginally to 4,435 units in August 2018.
