If we look at data of top 50 two-wheelers sold in November 2019, we can see that only two out of top 10 and only fifteen out of top 50 have registered positive YoY growth. The top 50 two-wheelers registered total sales of 14,01,914 units in November 2019, which is de-growth of 13% in comparison to 16,11,329 units sold in same period last year.

Commuter bikes and scooters in 100 – 125 cc range continue to dominate, grabbing all top 10 slots in the list. Leading the pack is Hero Splendor, with sales of 2,23,289 units in November 2019. However, even the two-wheeler market leader has registered negative growth of -1%. Splendor sales in November last year stood at 2,25,536 units. It may be recalled that Splendor has received BS-VI upgrade and BS-IV versions are no longer in production.

At second spot is Honda Activa, with sales of 2,12,164 units in November. However, YoY sales are down -2.77%. Activa sales in November last year stood at 2,18,212 units. Hero Duet has also registered major loss of -77.49%, down from 12,137 to 2,732 units.

A brief lull after the festive rush was expected and the above numbers support that theory. Two-wheeler sales are expected to improve in the coming months, as more BS-VI compliant versions are launched. Economic conditions in the country will also impact two-wheeler sales in the coming months.
