Toyota Ertiga on sale in Kenya for Rs 18 lakhs – Next launch, Toyota Ciaz

Toyota Ertiga for Kenya

Toyota Kenya introduced the new multi utility passenger vehicle Suzuki Ertiga in Kenya on 26th June 2019. The launch comes at a time when there is growing demand for 7 seater vehicles in the country. This has been assessed in a study undertaken by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Economic Survey 2019. Over the past five years, buyers in the country are showing more preference for passenger cum cargo vehicles as compared to vehicles exclusively for passenger travel.

Toyota Ertiga introduced in Kenya is a 7 seater spacious vehicle. It is priced at Sh2.65 million (Rs 18 lakhs approx) and boasts of a stylish and ergonomic design while it also receives a host of safety features. Designed for family commuting or for small businesses, the Ertiga MPV can seat upto 7 occupants. It gets new exteriors with a taller and wider nose, distinctive shoulder line, extensive use of chrome accents and an aerodynamic body.

Basically this is Maruti Ertiga, which is exported from India as a CBU to Kenya. Toyota Ertiga is powered by a 1.5 liter petrol engine offering 77 kW peak power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm torque at 4,400 rpm. It is being offered with a 3 year or 1 lakh km warranty along with service intervals every 10,000 kms. For easy financing schemes, the company has entered into a contract with major banks.

Toyota Ciaz for Kenya

Toyota Kenya, which operates via 8 branches, 5 independent dealerships and 18 service centers ensures timely delivery and efficient and full fledged service backup. Toyota and Suzuki entered into a joint alliance via a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2017. Toyota Kenya has confirmed a total of 7 Suzuki models in Kenya, which besides the Ertiga will include Alto, Swift, Ciaz, Vitara SUV and Jimny.

Of these, Alto, Swift, Ciaz and Ertiga will be exported from India while the Jimny will be imported into Kenya from the company’s Kosai plant in Japan. The Vitara will be making its way into Kenya from Suzuki’s Magyar plant in Hungary.

In India, Toyota sources the Baleno hatchback from Maruti, which is being sold as the Glanza. The company will also source the Brezza, Ertiga and Ciaz from Maruti Suzuki for sale in India. Suzuki will be receiving two new electrified vehicles which are positioned on the Toyota platform that include the RAV4 and Corolla Wagon for the European markets. Toyota and Suzuki also plan development and sharing of a C segment MPV which will go on sale in India. Toyota will also provide the Corolla to be sold as a rebadged Maruti Suzuki in India in 2020.
