Toyota Motor Corporation has big plans for the new made for India Etios Liva hatchback. The car will also find its way to other emerging markets where compact cars are gaining popularity. India is an impotant market in Toyota’s global growth strategy, and though the company hasn’t been an aggressive force in India until now, they will push sales of newly launched hatchbacks in the Indian car market.

Toyota records a 5% marketshare in India and has plans of doubling this figure by 2015. The Etios Liva hatchback launch has an ex-showroom Delhi price range of Rs. 3.99 lakh and Rs.`5.99 lakh. In fact, the cheapest premium hatchback recorded upwards of 3,500 bookings in its first fortnight of business, which points towards advantageous positioning in regards to pricing in the Indian car market.

Toyota is renewing its strategy for the India. Toyota has kept a close eye on performance with the launch of their bigger fleet, the Prado, land Cruiser, and Camry sedan. Then came the Etios sedan, and then Etios Liva hatchback.  The company is keen on increasing their product portfolio here and continue their winning streak in the Indian auto market apart from expanding in other emerging markets.

President, Asia-Pacific Region, Hiroji Onishi had this to say. “The Etios platform, both in sedan and hatchback, will make inroads in India and other emerging markets. It is a futuristic car that is bound to make a dent in similar markets. While the potential is immense, we believe that the Etios range should ideally account for large proportion of our sales as we increase our focus on other emerging markets.”  “The sedan, that was developed keeping in view the diverse needs of global customers, has already gained strong acceptance for its performance, fuel efficiency and design in India. Small cars are slowly gaining acceptance across the world and India takes lead as world’s largest market for such compact cars.”
