Toyota Etios production to end in 2020, Vios coming to India

Toyota-Vios India plans

With lack of any product in the segment between Etios and Corolla, Japanese automakers Toyota, along with their Indian counterparts Kirloskar Motors will be introducing the Vios sedan in India.

Toyota-Vios India plansIt was reported earlier that Toyota will not be bringing Vios to India as they plan to produce a new car on the Etios platform. But, Japan’s Nikkei now reveals that they are in fact going to bring the Vios sedan to India.

Toyota Vios will be produced at Toyota Kirloskar Motor plant in Bangalore, from where the Etios is also being produced. It will be positioned in the C2 segment in which Honda City has a decade long monopoly. With a plan to roll out about 50,000 units per year, production of Toyota Vios will be scaled up by 2020 when Etios is phased out.

Toyota Vios has already proved itself in Thailand where it has been welcomed due to its modern stance and quality interiors. Measuring more than 4.4 meters in length, the Vios promises enhanced interior space. Pricing of Vios in Thailand starts at ¥ 1.8 million ($17,600, INR 10,60,664). However Toyota adjusts prices as per income levels of its middle class range of buyers and hence pricing in India will be tweaked accordingly. Vios is on sale in over eight countries with sales during 2013 reaching the 220,000 units mark.

Toyota Vios is expected to launch in both automatic and manual transmissions in India with a price ranging from INR 7.5 to 10 lakhs. The mid sized, five seater sedan will instantly appeal to Indian buyers due to its sophistication and contemporary stance with a host of interior advancements and exterior highlights.

Cabin will be roomy and will boast of steering mounted audio controls, comfortable seating, foldable rear seats and power steering facilities. Adequate boot space and safety features to include airbags, ESP, EBP, ABS, parking sensors, fog lights, central locking and rear defogger will also ensure that the Vios endears itself to buyers in the country.
