Toyota has been long expected to plonk the smaller 2.5 litre engine in Fortuner so that new entry level model will be available for those who want the taste of the beast at a bargain. Well now the Japanese automaker has indeed launched two new variants equipping the smaller motor, but remained mum about it probably because none of the two are most affordable in the variant lineup. They are in fact pricier than the 3.0 litre base model. The company has allotted the 2,494 cc 4-cylinder DOHC engine to TRD Sportivo so called limited edition with 4×2 Manual and 4×2 Automatic setups. Former is priced at Rs. 24.44 lakhs and latter at Rs. 25.44 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). 3.0 litre models start at Rs. 24.26 lakhs and go all the way up to Rs. 26.58 lakhs across 4 versions (just with 3.0 litre engine).
The 2.5 litre mill churns out 144 PS max power @ 3,400 rpm and 343 Nm peak torque @ 1,600 rpm – 2,800 rpm. It is the same engine on Innova MPV producing 102 PS @ 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1,200 rpm – 3,600 rpm.
Features in new Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo edition include projector headlamps with manual levelling, dual tone front grille, contrast front and rear skirts, subtle body graphics, roof lip spoiler, TRD Sportivo badging and TRD Muffler cutter, leather seat upholstery, leather steering wrap, wooden and silver trims, and the like. But Toyota Fortuner 2.5 litre model will be offered only in Super White and Silver Metallic body colours.
