Under the bonnet, Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV may be powered by a 2.0L Petrol or a 2.4L Turbo Diesel with both MT and AT gearbox options
In the Indian market, Toyota doesn’t have a reputation for being affordable or offering a value for money quotient. IMV platform-based Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux are stark examples of this conundrum. In Indonesia, however, Toyota will soon launch an affordable people-mover SUV version of Hilux Rangga pickup truck.
An Indonesian aftermarket coach-builder called New Armada has made the body of Toyota Rangga SUV concept, which was showcased a few months ago. The production version of this vehicle will be made by Toyota Astra Motor for Indonesian market only (as of writing this post). Now that official pictures have been out, we can take a closer look at what’s what.
Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV
Hilux Rangga in Indonesia, is also called as Hilux Champ in few markets. The SUV version of this vehicle is slated to launch in early 2025, as confirmed by the company. When compared to the commercial pickup truck version, overall design and appeal has been spruced up quite a bit to make it look premium.
However, Rangga SUV still looks quite rudimentary in the way it is built. However, these design elements also lend it a rugged and muscular appeal. At the front, we can see the same fascia as Rangga, with additions like LED DRLs, projector headlight and what looks like a metallic bumper with exposed bolts.
There are many unpainted elements in the fascia. Bonnet is high-set with interesting details, front quarter panels also lend a muscular appeal along with up-right windshield. There are alloy wheels finished in Black. Overall design of this SUV looks quite similar to the pickup truck version till the B Pillar.
From B Pillars onwards, Rangga SUV is all new and has rear doors in interesting shape. Sheet metal on all four doors gets interesting details. Door handles for all four doors are vertical pull-type ones. The white roof shown in the images lends a floating roof effect. Roof rails add to the already tall vehicle.
Practical Interiors
Interiors will be rudimentary too, but efforts shall be made to offer a satisfactory experience with dual airbags, touchscreen infotainment, power windows, rear AC vents, flexible seating options for up to 7 occupants with a 3rd row and more. Other basic amenities are expected to be on this affordable SUV based on IMV platform.
Speaking of platform, Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV will share underpinnings with Hilux pickup truck, Innova Crysta MPV and Fortuner SUV. It might be powered by either a 2.0L petrol engine or a 2.4L diesel engine, mated to either manual or automatic gearbox options. India launch is unlikely, but Indonesia launch will happen in 2025.
