Toyota Innova Crysta, Fortuner help sales cross 1.5 lakh in FY 2019

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reports 7 percent domestic sales growth through FY18-19, over FY17-18. For the FY ended, sales are reported at 1,50,525 units, up from 1,40,645 units sold in FY18. Innova Crysta has registered positive growth in FY18-19. TKM reports 6 percent sales growth for Camry hybrid for the Jan – March 2019 quarter.

N. Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “We are happy to have clocked a growth of 7% in domestic sales in FY 18-19 as compared to FY 17-18. Innova Crysta and Fortuner have been maintaining the growth trajectory and continue to be leaders in the segment. We are thankful to our loyal customers for their trust and confidence in Toyota products.”

Toyota Camry Hybrid has seen 500 bookings since launch in Jan 2019. Etios Liva sales growth through the FY has been reported at 13 percent over the last FY.

Indian auto industry has been reeling with a slowdown in buyer sentiment with multiple factors working concurrently to have gotten to the current stage of stagnancy, including weak consumer spending in pre-election phase, and dampened business sentiment.

For March 2019, Toyota Kirloskar Motor reports 12818 units sold in the domestic market, at 2 percent growth having sold 12,539 units in March 2018. Exports are down at 844 units, down from 998 units sold in march 2018. Total sales stand at 13,662 flat growth, up from 13,537 units sold in March 2018. Sales movement in the preceding month too proved to be flat. In terms of sales, the brand has crossed the 13k mark after a long 6 months.

For Toyota, it’s Innova MUV remains a racehorse for the long run. For 2018, Innova raked in revenue of 7,543 crores, followed by Fortuner sales. The brand also sells Yaris in India since 2018. The car however hasn’t grown into a bestseller for the company. Last week, Latin NCAP awarded Toyota Yaris a 4-star safety rating.

Toyota has also laid out plans regarding their association with Suzuki. In India, Toyota will manufacture Maruti cars Ertiga, Ciaz, Baleno and Vitara Brezza. They will sell these cars at their showroom after rebadging. They will also export these cars to Africa. In return, Toyota will give Maruti their expertise on hybrid / EV technology.
