The Indonesia-made 2016 Toyota Innova (called as Toyota Innova Crysta in India) has been subjected to the ASEAN-NCAP crash tests. Since the presence of standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is mandatory for 5-Star safety rating under Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), the entry-level model have been given 4-Star rating even though it scored 14.10 points out of 16 in this category.
The top-end model with standard ESC boasts of 5-Star rating for AOP. Both models scored 76% for Child Occupant Protection (COP) which is good for 4-Star rating. Not surprisingly, the Innova Crysta passed the side impact test. Standard safety features include dual airbags (higher variants get side airbags as well), ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder for driver and front passenger and ISOFIX mounts.
Models tested were powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. In addition to being sold in Indonesia, the 2016 Innova will be sold in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines, in the same configuration as the crash tested model.
