Toyota India sales have improved and the company is busy updating its line-up to BS6 emission standards ahead of the deadline
For February 2020, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has reported a domestic sales drop of 11.9 per cent or down to 10,352 units from 11,760 units. Etios exports for the month stood at 1,004 units, which is up by 36.22 per cent from 1,004 units. The total sales decline is 9.1 per cent i.e. down to 11,356 units from 12,497 units.
However, compared to the month of January 2020, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s domestic wholesales in February 2020 registered the highest growth in the industry at 78%. Even though overall sales have gone down, the latest monthly sells were a lot better. At the start of the year, sales fell to an alarming 5,804 units. In comparison, exports were higher at 1,318 units.

Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President (Sales and Service), Toyota Kirloskar Motor shared that the company has succeeded in making a smooth transition to BS6 emission standards ahead of the stipulated deadline. He added that customer services were not affected in the transition phase.
To date, 31,853 BS6 Toyota units have been dispatched to dealerships. Post the smooth transition to the stringent emission norms at its manufacturing facility, the Japanese automaker has also offered introductory pricing for its revised products. Toyota Kirloskar Motor says that it has not passed on the full increase of BS6 prices at one go.
The BS6 Toyota Yaris petrol has seen good acceptance on the market even though the car still lags behind the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Cumulative sales of the car grew by 83 per cent in January – February 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.
Since launch, about 23,000 Toyota Glanza units have been sold. The Innova Crysta and Fortuner continue to do well. As of now, Toyota India already has a month equivalent pending orders for BS6 variants. The company is making efforts to ramp up production and adjust act time to improve deliveries.
It is only recently that Toyota launched the Vellfire, a luxury self-charging hybrid electric vehicle. The luxury minivan has been received well and is sold out until April 2020. With the launch of Vellfire, Toyota India has introduced its most expensive product in the line-up.
The BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta was launched in January 2020. The MPV is still listed at an introductory price point so as to avoid passing on the full impact of the cost increase to consumers all at once. Prices will be revised in a stage-wise manner. In the coming months, it is left to be seen if customers accept the full pricing hike once the introductory offer is pulled back.
