Toyota India registered sales of 12,614 units during May 2016, as against 11,511 units sold in May 2015. This has helped the Japanese brand Toyota to claim 4th position in the passenger vehicle segment leaving Tata Motors behind.
Toyota Innova Crysta sales alone stood at 7,259 units in May 2016 as compared to sales of 5,028 units of the Toyota Innova in May 2015. Toyota Etios sedan was also in demand with increased sales during May 2016.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors is one of the worst affected automakers post the ban on diesel vehicles of over 2000cc capacity in Delhi and NCR. Both Toyota Innova and Fortuner are now banned in the region. In spite of this, the car brand had emerged to show progress.
On the other hand, sales of Tata Motors dipped 26.7% to below the 10,000 mark to 8,617 units in May 2016. This fall in sales was noted even though the new Tata Tiago hatchback was launched in April.
Tata Motors sales in the passenger vehicle segment stood at 149,420 units in FY 2016, a dip of 7.9% as compared to sales in FY 2015. Upcoming models such as the Tata Hexa MPV set to compete with the Toyota Innova Crysta and a sub 4 meter sedan version of the Tata Tiago codenamed Kite 5 as on date are scheduled for launch later this year which could boost company sales and help the company gain momentum.
