Toyota sold 18,670 units in March 2023 relating to a 9 percent YoY growth and 22 percent MoM growth
Toyota Kirloskar Motor ended the last month of the past financial year on a positive note. MoM growth was seen across every model in the company lineup except for the Glanza and Fortuner. Total sales increased 9 percent YoY to 18,670 units in March 2023 from 17,130 units sold in March 2022. It was also a MoM growth of 22 percent over 15,267 units sold in Feb 2023.
Major demand came from the recently introduced hybrid models such as the Innova Hycross / Crysta and Hyryder. Innova HyCross hybrid XZ and XZ(O) trims waiting period has touched 2.5 years. Toyota has discontinued bookings temporarily of these two variants.
Toyota Sales Breakup March 2023 – Innova Range At Top
Toyota sales chart was topped by Innova Crysta + Hycross of which the company sold 8,075 units in March 2023. This was a 2 percent YoY growth over 7,917 units sold in March 2022, the period when only the Innova Crysta was on sale. MoM sales improved by 94 percent from 4,169 units sold in Feb 2023.
Toyota Hyryder was the 2nd best-selling model in the company lineup last month. Sales stood at 3,474 units in March 2023, up 5 percent MoM from 3,307 units sold in Feb 2023. Urban Cruiser Hyryder also commands a huge waiting period for its top of the line hybrid variants.
YoY sales of Toyota Glanza increased by 13 percent to 3,365 units in March 2023. This was against 2,987 units sold in March 2022. MoM sales however fell in the red by as much as 20 percent from 4,223 units sold in Feb 2023. Glanza is priced in the range of Rs 6.66 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-sh.
Toyota Fortuner also saw a YoY growth of 4 percent to 3,108 units in the past month from 2,984 units sold in the same month last year. MoM sales fell by 9 percent as against 3,426 units sold in Feb 2023. 2024 Toyota Fortuner is set to follow a similar design of the next-gen Tacoma pickup truck, it is expected to be launched in 2024.
Toyota Vellfire, Hilux, Camry, LC300
Lower down the sales list was the Toyota Vellfire. Sales stood at 239 units in March 2023 which was a MoM growth of 298 percent over 60 units sold in Feb 2023. It was followed by the Hilux with 223 units sold last month, up from 43 units sold in March 2022 and up 1387 percent over just 15 units sold in Feb 2023. The 2023 Toyota Hilux was opened for bookings earlier this year and in March 2023 certain variants underwent a price cut. The Hilux 4×4 MT Std is now priced at Rs 30.40 lakh while the top spec 4×4 AT High is at Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
There were also 98 units of the Toyota Camry sold last month, down 18 percent YoY from 120 units sold in March 2022. This was however, a 46 percent MoM growth from 67 units sold in Feb 2023. The new Land Cruiser LC300 found mention on the sales list of March 2023 with 88 units sold in the said month. Bookings opened in August 2022, and now Toyota has commenced deliveries of this flagship SUV that is brought into the country via the CBU route.
