Toyota Vellfire flagship MPV above Innova Crysta – Launch date, teaser

After missing out from action at the 2020 Auto Expo, Toyota will be launching its first product of 2020 on 26th Feb’20.

In a latest teaser, Toyota has confirmed that it will be launching its premium MPV, the Vellfire on 26th February’20. The teaser uses the hashtag of ‘Sustainable Luxury’ and has a side profile of Vellfire in background. Toyota has intentionally ensured that lighting on the Vellfire is low, so as to provide a ‘teaser’ feel to the communication.

However, as Vellfire is a globally sold product, details regarding the luxury MPV are already available. Toyota will be bringing it as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), and we don’t expect it to have any country specific changes or updates.

To keep complications and supply chain costs on the lower side, Toyota will be launching the Vellfire only in the top of the line ‘Executive Lounge’ trim. The model will be sold with an 8-seat configuration as standard. Customers will however have the option to choose among 4 exterior paint choices and 2 interior color options.

Under the hood, Toyota will be installing a petrol hybrid setup, which consists of a BS6 compliant 2.5 litre petrol engine and an electric motor. It is the same configuration which is also seen on the Lexus NX 300H. The combination can dish out 197 PS and 235 Nm of peak torque. The power is transferred to all 4-wheels via a CVT unit.

As the Vellfire will be positioned as a luxury MPV, it will come along with a long list of creature comfort features. These include a 3-zone climate control system, dual 10.2 inch HD displays for second row passengers, electrically adjustable & ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electric sliding doors, electric powered tailgate, twin electric moon-roofs (sunroof), LED headlights & tail lamps, premium leather upholstery and a lot more.

On the dimension front, the Vellfire measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,895 mm in height. Its closest competitor, the Mercedes Benz V Class happens to be 435 mm longer & 78 mm wider when compared with the Vellfire.

Toyota will price the Vellfire around the INR 75 lakh mark (ex-showroom). Upon launch, the Vellfire will mainly compete with the V Class, however some potential customers might also want to switch to the Kia Carnival which offers similar level of features at around half the price.
