TVS Akula detailed in hi-res spy shots, instrument cluster revealed

Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in concept format, TVS Akula 310 sportsbike is being readied for launch in India.

TVS Akula 310 concept was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. A fully faired sports bike which embodies TVS’ rich racing heritage, Akula 310 is expected to be launched by March 2017. When launched, we expect it to be named as the Apache 300.

The company has began testing of the bike on public road. During one such outing, the bike was spotted by an enthusiast and the images reveal never before seen close-up shots of production ready TVS Akula 310. These new spy shots reveal the instrument cluster in detail for the first time. The fully digital IC is completely new, and is not the same unit which is installed on the BMW G310R.

Other features on offer incldue USD front fork, rear monoshock, split seats, larger fuel tank, disc brakes, projector lamps, LED taillgihts, LED side blinkers, LED DRLs, clip-on handlebar, full fairing, and a fully digital instrument cluster. It will be powered by a 313cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled petrol engine develpoed by BMW Motorrad. This engine will offer 34 hp peak power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm mated to a 6 speed manual transmission.

This is the same engine that also powers BMW G 310 R motorcycle revealed last year. Estimates reveal that this engine will offer 36 kmpl mileage on the Akula 310 sportsbike while pricing will be around INR 2.2 lakhs.

Designed with inputs received from company’s factory race drivers, Akula (“shark” in Russian) pays tribute to 33 years of TVS Racing history. The spy shots reveal that TVS intends on keeping most of the features of Akula concept, on offer with the production ready variant.

TVS will be producing the Akula 310 sportsbike from the company plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu while production costs will be kept to a minimum so as to price the bike efficiently. Upon launch, Akula 310 will compete with KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Yamaha R3.
