TVS Akula 310 Concept based on BMW G310R at 2016 Auto Expo

Rushlane was first to break the story about TVS unveiling a concept bike based on the BMW G310R at 2016 Auto Expo. Well, here it is.

BMW G310R based TVS Akula 310 Concept is being showcased at Auto Expo 2016. It has been developed by TVS. Unveiled to celebrate TVS Motor Company’s 33 years of racing history, Akula means Shark in Russian. Its a racing concept, developed by their factory racing team – TVS Racing.

It features a race tuned 4V DOHC race tuned 310 cc single cylinder engine (power output not revealed). Features includes RAM air induction, gill-vents for thermal efficiency, aluminum trellis sub frame, race tuned suspension, on-board gyro camera assist, carbon fiber body work, aerodynamic drag reduction, and lightweight aluminum components.

Production-spec TVS Akula 310 will share engine and platform with BMW G310R, but will be inspired from the concept above. The BMW bike will cater to making available an affordable Beemer while the TVS Akula 310 will look to target larger sales volume, similar to Bajaj Auto and KTM offerings.

Both BMW G310R and TVS Akula 310 production ready variant will get power from a 313cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine with produces a maximum power output of 34bhp at 9,500rpm, and peak torque of 28Nm at 7,500rpm on board the Beemer. The motor will be mated to a six-speed manual unit. BMW G310R and TVS Akula 310 will be sold in India, but there’s no clarity on sales channels right now. BMW Motorrad doesn’t have a wide sales network in India, and marketing the product by themselves will entail a considerable investment.

Production ready TVS Akula 310 is planned for launch by January 2017, before making debut later this year.
