TVS Apache RR 310 S (Akula) latest spy shot confirms much needed change – Can you guess what is it?
TVS Akula 310 concept made its global debut at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier last year. A little over 1.5 years later, the bike is all set to be launched in India.
Ever since the time the test mules started testing on road, and spy shots started pouring in, much thanks to our readers, there has been one complain, which fans have voiced. The rear view mirror has been placed on the handle bar, and not on the fairing.
Well, TVS seems to have listened to their fans as the latest test mule of the TVS Apache 310 Akula has the rear view mirrors placed on the fairing, as seen in the image below. This makes the Akula even cooler in appearance. Images are credit to Dheeraj TheMotoGuy.
TVS Akula 310 concept made its global debut at 2016 Auto Expo. TVS Akula (Shark in Russian) is a fully faired concept based on the BMW G310R motorcycle, which made its global debut in November 2015.
The production-spec TVS Akula is going to be christened TVS Apache RR 310 S upon launch. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of new KTM Duke 250, Mahindra Mojo, Honda CBR250RR, etc. Price is expected to start from INR 1.8 lakh, ex-showroom.
Speaking about Apache 310, overall design has been inspired from the flagship BMW sportsbike, S1000RR. Some of the features / highlights of the prod-ready Akula are – brakes from Bybre (front 300mm 4 pistons), ABS from Continental, suspension from KYB, ECU by Magneti Marelli.
The concept which was shown by TVS at the Auto Expo had a lot of carbon fibre body parts. This was done so as to keep the weight of the bike at a minimum as it was a racing concept. But, there were no plans for launching the Akula 310 production spec variant with carbon fibre parts, as it will increase the price of the bike considerably.
But the response TVS has received from the showcasing of Akula 310 with carbon fibre fairing has been nothing less than phenomenal. This has resulted in the management contemplating into thinking about launching Apache RR 310 S with carbon fibre fairing when it is launched. TVS is aiming at retaining about 75% of the parts of the concept on the production-ready Akula.
Power to the TVS Apache RR 310 S comes from a 313 cc single cc liquid cooled FI engine. This engine delivers 34 PS power and 28 Nm torque aboard the G310R, and is expected to be tuned differently for Apache 310. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission and claims to deliver a mileage in excess of 33 kmpl on board the G310R. Sadly, the G310R launch in India has been delayed, and will take place post the Apache 310 launch, in H2 2018.
