The TVS-BMW K03 (codename), the first product of the technology cooperation agreement, is expected to make its world premiere in its BMW avatar at the EICMA 2015 in Milan later this month. The 300 cc single-cylinder street fighter was previewed by the BMW G 310 stunt concept which was unveiled in Brazil last month.
A latest media report suggests that both TVS and BMW versions of the K03 would be launched in India in early 2016, probably around the time of Auto Expo 2016 in February. Both versions will be made in India for global consumption by TVS whereas BMW is fully responsible for research and development.
The TVS version of the street fighter would go on sale through the company’s existing outlets in a phase-wise launch while the more premium BMW version will be retailed through BMW Motarrad outlets whose spread across the country will be enhanced next year.
There is also a rumor about a second platform from the TVS-BMW agreement. TVS is reportedly studying the market for a possible 500-600 cc twin-cylinder adventure tourer motorcycle which could have a price range of INR 5-6 lakhs. If given a go ahead, BMW engineering and TVS manufacturing would continue to be the norm for this platform as well.
