Just a few days after the first spotting of prototype in Hosur, TVS Motor Company has released a teaser video for its premium electric scooter. The Bajaj Chetak rival is set to be unveiled on 25th of January.

No details of the product has been shared as of now but the video clearly shows a wall-mounted charger, indicating its an electric vehicle and a silhouette of a zooming scooter. The video carries the caption, “Charge.Life”.

The prototypes spotted earlier were too heavily disguised to make out the final design but we think the production version will derive most of its design cues from the TVS Creon electric scooter concept which was showcased at the previous edition of Auto Expo in 2018.

If the Creon is anything to go by, then we can expect a properly premium product with sporty intentions. The concept was underpinned by an aluminium perimeter frame supported by telescopic front suspension and an eccentrically mounted rear monoshock.

The electric scooter concept rode on alloy wheels which were shod with thick rubber. The scooter also sported front petal disc with ABS, LED headlight, fully digital instrument console, reverse mode, geo fencing, navigation, etc. The on-board technology was developed in collaboration with tech giant Intel.

Going by the trend, we expect the upcoming TVS electric scooter to feature smartphone and 4G connectivity with possibility of over the air updates, multiple ride modes, and a suit of data-driven features. Powertrain details are still scarce but we won’t be surprised if the scooter emerges as the most powerful in its class. A lithium-ion battery pack with an estimated range of 80 km is expected to be on-board.

The TVS e-scooter will be pitted squarely against the Ather 450 and Bajaj Chetak. Both its rivals are currently available only in handful of cities with Bangalore being the common market. TVS may also opt to follow a similar phase-wise approach and ramp up its presence as the country’s electric vehicle infrastructure takes shape.

Like its primary rivals, the TVS electric scooter will receive subsidy under FAME-II scheme. Expect the price tag to a shade over INR 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
