TVS Jupiter, launched in 2013, was an instant success in Indian markets. It helped in propelling the company to a higher position in the scooter segment and as on date there are over 2 million Jupiter scooters on Indian roads.
TVS is all set to update the Jupiter by launching a new variant with Fuel Injection and Combi-Braking System. The same has been spied inside the company plant located at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, where the company conducted media test rides of the newly launched Apache 160.
Similar in looks, the new TVS Jupiter FI and CBS variant will wear two new stickers to differentiate itself from the regular Jupiter. The first sticker is on the above front wheel stating it features SYNC Braking System, which is nothing but a fancy word for Combi Braking system, that we have already seen on board the Honda Activa and other scooters. This system applies uniform braking of front and rear tyre when the rider presses the front brake.
Next sticker is placed on the front apron, which clearly states that it has FI, Fuel Injection System. FI will improve engine performance and fuel efficiency.
TVS Jupiter FI will get 110 cc single cylinder engine. On board the current Jupiter carb, this engine delivers 8 bhp power at 7,500 rpm and 8 Nm torque at 5,500 rpm mated to an automatic transmission. On board the Jupiter FI, these figures could slightly change.
Current TVS Jupiter is priced in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 56,000. Expect a marginal bump in price on the FI CBS variant. Upon launch, it will rival market leader, new Honda Activa 5G.
