TVS XL special edition launched as the moped surpasses 1 cr sales milestone

TVS XL special edition

Launched in 1980, the diminutive 50 cc 2-stroke moped paved way for TVS to become what it is now. The nameplate has now surpassed a significant milestone.

TVS has rolled out over 1 crore XL mopeds since its launch. India’s first two seater 50 cc moped managed to build an unshakable reputation in rural India for its durability, versatility and ease of use.

It eventually evolved into a 70 cc moped named Super XL with peppy performance and a heavy duty variant with removable pillion seat. Though it’s rare to see one in an urban environment nowadays, the little workhorse has been selling strongly in rural markets.

Despite being a 2-stroke moped that has not seen a refresh in recent years, XL manages to find a place in 10 top best selling two wheelers list and has become one of the only two two-wheeler brands to cross 1 cr milestone in the country, the other being the iconic Hero Splendor.

To commemorate this huge milestone, TVS has launched a special edition with hitherto unseen colors such as silver grey and titanium grey. Special graphics, chrome finished grab rail and silencer guard with 1 crore celebration sticker are the other distinguishing visual elements.

TVS XL 50 original moped

The original TVS XL 50 cc moped was nothing short of a revolutionary two wheeler for rural India.

The moped is powered by a 70 cc air-cooled 2-stroke engine which puts out a modest 3.5 bhp and 5 nm of torque. A single speed gearbox transfers power via a chain drive.
