At the 5th UNAOC Global Forum, the 2012 Intercultural Innovation Award function was hosted at Vienna Austria. This event/ceremony is hosted to recognize fundamental projects which bring about dialogue and intercultural understanding. There were five winners announced and prize money worth $100,000 was presented to them.
The international award, defines partnership between UNAOC and BMW group. Awardees of the Intercultural innovation award are inducted into the World intercultural facility for Innovation (WIFI). The winners of the Intercultural innovation Award for 2012 are: Puerta Joven, Plain Ink, Chintan Environmental Research and Action group, Kapamagogopa Inc. (KI) Volunteers, TakingITGlobal (TIG). These organizations and individuals were recipients of cash prizes starting from $50,000 to $5,000.
Puerta Joven won a cash prize of $50,000 for his project that exalts right to freedom of expression and to make use of it. Indian NGO Chintan Environmental research and Action group promotes understanding between poor and wealthy sections of society in New Delhi so as to bring about communal harmony. 3rd Place went to Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group – Recycling as Bridge and Binder (India) who won $15,000 USD for their efforts.
