Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian automaker known for producing frugal and highly functional SUVs, is coming up with two new products. Each one will be aimed at contrasting segments and markets within the country.Mahindra S101 is based on an all-new monocoque platform with scope for future derivatives, while Mahindra U301 is raised on improvised and modular third-generation ladder frame chassis that underpins the latest Scorpio.
Engine options of Mahindra S101 is expected to include a newly developed 1.2 litre 3-cylinder diesel mill and probably a petrol version of same configuration, both producing about 80 to 90 PS max power. Mahindra U301 is not likely to be offered with a petrol engine, only the 1.5 litre 3-cylinder MCIR diesel engine doing duty in Mahindra Xylo / Quanto, with some improvements.
While the S101 baby SUV is expected to launch with 5-speed manual and AMT setups, sending power to front wheels, Mahindra U301 is likely to equip 5-speed manual transmission only which will drive the rear wheels. All Wheel Drive variant in the next gen Bolero is highly anticipated.
