Upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars in 2015 – below Rs. 6 lakhs

1. Maruti Wagon R AMT – Maruti Suzuki’s third AMT offering could take the form of not-a-bestseller Wagon R Stingray. Yes, Automated Manual Transmission is not likely to be equipped in standard Wagon R variants, which means Stingray AMT could be the first car variant in India to host both AMT and Airbag, that will also add ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). Maruti Celerio AGS (Auto Gear Shift) trim does not have Airbag, so doesn’t Alto K10 AGS. Tata Zest is currently the safer AMT alternative featuring ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and CSC (Corner Stability Control).

Maruti Wagon R Stingray AMT / AGS could launch in early 2015.

There will be no change in engine or drivetrain in upcoming Maruti Wagon R AMT. Same 1.0 litre K10 petrol unit along with 5-speed gearbox will be seen. Expect price difference of around Rs. 30,000 towards north, compared to Maruti Stingray with manual transmission.

Expected launch – Mid 2015
Expected price – Rs 4.5 lakhs
Rivals – Celerio AMT

2. Maruti Celerio diesel The company’s new in-house diesel engine, developed chiefly for Y9T LCV, is expected to be plonked in Celerio. It is an 800 cc two-cylinder oil-burner capable of about 35 PS peak power. According to Maruti, the engine will deliver around 30 kmpl mileage, making its host top the list of most fuel efficient cars in the country.

Maruti Celerio diesel variant was spied recently, given away by DDiS badging on front fender. DDIS is just as same as CRDI (Common Rail Direct Injection).

Apart from concerns of narrowing petrol-diesel price gap, performance and refinement of the engine in such quite a big car is still expected to be not-so-pleasant. Even if Maruti succeeds in that respect, possible high price of Celerio diesel variant could push diesel seekers to other nameplates in the segment. Expect Celerio diesel to make market debut in early 2015.

Expected launch – Late 2015
Expected price – Rs 4.5 lakhs
Rivals – Chevrolet Beat diesel

3. Maruti YRA – Up above the world of affordable small cars, Maruti Suzuki will introduce a new premium hatchback, positioned above Swift to compete with Hyundai i20 and soon to launch Honda Jazz eye to eye.

Although Maruti Swift continues its sales pace, the company wants to plug the gap between the ageing B-segment-er and the slightly higher positioned rivals, in order to try and dominate every segment it has its toes in.

Maruti YRA (codename) will be lighter than Swift by about 90 kg, despite bigger cabin, better legroom and larger boot space. It will also have improved features but the exterior may not turn out to be as pleasing as the latter.

Maruti Suzuki YRA is a global product that is expected to unveil in coming months.

Under the hood, same 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel are expected, but there is a slight possibility that 1.4 petrol motor will be offered in range-topping variants. All engines will be mated to 5-speed manual transmission. AMT will not be an option.

Expected price – Rs 6-9 lakhs
Rivals – Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20 Elite, Volkswagen Polo

4, Maruti Swift Dzire facelift – Expected to go on sale in January 2015, Maruti Dzire facelift will get new exterior embellishments and added features. Akin to the new Swift facelift, Maruti Dzire refresh will not get LED DRLs, but will wear ‘L’ shaped chrome inserts in the same place, which looks just like those in Suzuki Alivio sedan (Ciaz in China). Adding to chrome coated looks of the sub-4 metre sedan, front grille will replaced with a Honda Amaze-like conspicuous thick bar with company logo at the centre.

Engine options in Maruti Dzire facelift will remain the same, with extra mileage claim.
